Brain/CNS Board

Board Chair:

Dr Elena Wilson, Consultant Clinical Oncologist, Royal Free Hospital

The two main providers of neuro-oncological services in North London are UCLH and RFH. The aim of the Board is to provide a unified service across these sites.
All brain and CNS cancers are treated at the specialist centres in the Network (UCLH, NHNN, RFH and GOSH), and as such the Tumour Board has been developed to help improve communication between these centres and the units, and to develop guidelines on both referral and treatment in line with national guidelines.
The aims of this group are:

  • To establish MDTs, and identify gaps in the membership.
  • To review the waiting times targets and ensure that the Network can comply.
  • To provide guidelines and rationalised care pathways.
  • To provide additional clinical oncology support to brain and CNS cancer services.
  • To improve joint working between UCLH, NHNN and the RFH.
  • To conduct a review of existing patient flows.

      Improving Outcomes and Peer Review:

In June 2006, NICE published the document “Improving Outcomes for people with Brain and other CNS tumours”.
Both RFH and UCLH have produced operational policy documents which include the 11 recommendations made by NICE.
