Head & Neck Tumour Board

Board Chair:

Paul O'Flynn, Consultant ENT/Head and Neck Surgeon

The Head & Neck Tumour Board was established in the North London Cancer Network seven years ago and comprises core and extended members of the MDT within the Network. The Board meets on average four times a year and there are subgroup meetings for thyroid cancer and local support teams (clinical nurse specialists, speech and language therapists, dieticians etc). Head and Neck cancer services within the Network have been centralized at UCLH with a satellite at BCFH.
Currently the focus for the Tumour Board is to develop closer integration across the Network with reconfiguration of thyroid cancer services, in preparation for preliminary Peer Review visits in the autumn of 2007.

Improving Outcomes and Peer Review:

The Tumour Board submitted the draft Improving Outcomes Guidance (IOG) action plan for the Network in June 2006. This followed extensive work across the Network sites, collecting data supporting head and neck cancer activity to a population of around 2 million. The plan agreed centralisation of head and neck cancer services at UCLH with a satellite at BCFH. Each site has their own MDT and provides both surgery and chemo-radiotherapy for these patients.
Head and neck is to have a pre-visit for Peer Review assessment in October 2007 with formal Peer Review in January 2008. An action plan in line with the IOG for thyroid cancer services has recently been approved by the Board.
