Department of Health has published the latest findings from its quarterly survey of GPs on the subject of practice-based commissioning (PBC). The survey focuses on GPs’ perceptions of the support offered to them by their PCT and their engagement with practice-based commissioning. While there have been incremental increases in support for PBC over the year-long surveying period, many practices are yet to identify improvements in health. Key findings include:
49% of practices support PBC, showing a 12 point rise since the first wave of the survey.
The percentage of practices commissioning new services as a direct result of PBC is rising. 46% commissioned at least one new service a 13 percentage point rise on wave 1.
The proportion of practices agreeing that PBC has improved patient care has marginally increased from 12% to 18%.
In Wave 4 25% of practices state that they do not engage with the local population, compared to 35% in Wave 2.
